So I thought it was only fitting to give a Madison update, as well.
I posted before about her being shy, and that she is, for sure. But she is also a girl who knows what she likes, and she knows what she wants. She knows which socks she doesn't want to wear, because her socks MUST be skin tight on her feet, or they drive her nuts. She knows what matches and what doesn't. All of you who like to put your kids in funky, mismatched outfits, that would never fly with this kid. As she gets older, it will only get more challenging, I'm sure, but I'm trying to guide her into clothing choices that I feel like are appropriate for a girl her age. Oh, don't even get me started on the clothing choices for girls when they hit a size 7!
Madison loves animals! We were reminded of this last week, when my mom had to tell her that her Yorkie, PumPum, passed away. Madison was literally crushed. I have never seen her react like this to something. After my mom told her, she gave her a stuffed animal dog that she had in her car to help calm Madison down. It helped a lot, and Madison kept that dog by her side at ALL times until my mom emailed a stack of pictures of Madison with the dog. Now, she says, "I am going to give the stuffed dog back, because I have my book of PumPum." Over the last several days, I could look at Madison at any given moment, and she would have tears welled up in her eyes, because she misses the dog. Then, the other night, she came out of her room crying after bedtime, and when I asked her what was wrong, she said, "I don't want you to get old and die." I hugged her and told her that I'm not old, and I'm not going anywhere. I showed her on our number chart that I am 29 and 90 is old, and those numbers are far away from each other. Then, I told her all of the things that I am going to watch her do: graduate college, get married, have babies, be a mommy, and do amazing things.
So the last few days have pretty much gone like this for us: dog dies, child is devastated. Child realizes she will never see dog again. Child contemplates death. Child contemplates those she loves dying and never seeing them again. Geez, I surely didn't imagine having that type of conversation when I woke up in the morning! And when I asked Madison if I was old, she said yes!
Madison is perceptive and aware, and nothing gets by this kid!
She's also a perfectionist. Everything has a place. She keeps her own room clean, and she likes to surprise me by cleaning up the playroom and having me come downstairs with my eyes closed to see it. Who wouldn't love that?!
Her most recent accomplishment has been learning to read.
That is secret, sneaky video taking by Brad, because she gets up and runs away if she sees us videoing her. But she's doing great, and I'm so proud of her.
